So many shows!
I’ve been performing two or three shows a week, lately!  Here’s a still from my latest Operocka show.  We did a rock musical from the suggestion “Car” and it was a total blast.  I think this is when we were all singing about getting to Atlanta.  We all died in the end and it was incredible.  This might just be my favorite improv group ever.* *My other favorite groups are...

A scene from the end of the very first HannaLo Variety Hour at M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theater.  Amazing theatrical debut from my father, mother, and my friend Mike (who decided to add a New Zealand accent just to make it a bit more fun).  The night was an overwhelming success and I’ve got my next one planned for July 10th! NOTE: This takes a while to upload. Working on another version...

Warning! DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE AT A SATURDAY...
Last Saturday, I decided to embark on one of my favorite activities - attending a movie alone.  I didn’t discover this joy until I moved to Chicago after college.  I had just found out that my long distance ex-boyfriend had started seeing another girl long distance. Devastated, I took a walk around the block and ended up at my neighborhood theater just in time for a showing of Thirteen....

My new improv group! →
On Sunday, I had the pleasure of auditioning for the musical improv team Operocka.  And I do mean pleasure — it was the most fun I’ve ever had at an audition! I’ve been trying to get on a musical improv team for years, but always run into conflict. In Chicago, I came down with a horrible cold the day of auditions for a popular team.  Luckily, the musical director had heart me...

Hmmm....
I now feel confident enough in my Kara DiGuardio impression to stop recording American Idol every week.  That show has become really terrible and should be cancelled. So I’m really glad I’ve got such a relevant impression in my repertoire….

I've decided to become a derby doll
Okay, it’s probably not going to happen in reality because a) I’m currently in physical therapy for my knee and b) I have absolutely no free time, but I went to see the L.A. Derby Dolls on Saturday night and I walked away wishing I was on skates.  These girls are unfuckingbelievable!   First of all, it is so refreshing to see a crowd go crazy for a group of women who look like...

Do You Watch the new 90210?
How glad were you when Jasper jumped off the Hollywood sign?  So great, right?  Andt then, how disappointed were you when you saw he didn’t die?  How much do you love Naomi, but hate Ivy?  And how annoying is it the way Ivy pronounces “Naomi” even when someone else says it the correct way right in front of her?  Huh?  Am I right?  And how awesome is it that a mediocre, but...

Happy Birthday!
So, tomorrow marks my first anniversary in Los Angeles.  This has been the quickest year of my life.  Seems like just yesterday that Nicole, Mary Beth, and I packed up my car on a snowy day in Chicago and made our way across the country stopping in St. Louis, Albuquerque, and the Grand Canyon before landing in Santa Monica.  L.A. has certainly taken some getting used to.  I thought that I’d...

Earthquake!
I woke up this morning at 4 am to my bed shaking. As my mother said later, “You don’t want your bed shaking unless there’s another person in it.” Amen, Mamacita.  And very appropriate. (What can I say? I get my dirty sense of humor from her.) But sadly, it was not a hot man, but the Whittier Fault doing a little stretching ten miles away. This was my third earthquake since...

An Open Address to Some of My Favorite People on...
To the girl who says that she’s falling in love in her status updates, then complains about the heartbreak of the break-up, then says her ex is an asshole, then says she’ll leave her personal business off Facebook, then talks about falling in love with a new guy and begins the cycle all over again: Keep it up. That shit is gold and hella entertaining. To the people who comment on my...

Update on my life
Here’s what’s been going on lately: I’ve been performing a ton with my short-form group Mission Improvable and my long-form group Daddy Warbucks.  Also, my sketch group with Fred Willard, The Moho’s, has started to perform a monthly sketch show.  We are currently working on our second show, going up next Thursday at Bang Theater in L.A. I hurt my knee running and started...

Average in Hollywood
I’ve begun writing essays in my free time.  Please enjoy this one and let me know your comments. “She’s a dancer!” “She does yoga!” “Her house has fresh flowers in it!” “Men are always in love with her!” We were doing an exercise in my first official L.A. acting class.  One by one, we got up and introduced ourselves to the strangers with whom we would be spending the next six hours in...

Going to the dark side
I have finally relented and told my father he can get me a Kindle for Hanukkah. Yes, Chanuka was almost three months ago.  Yes, that sentence makes me sound like a spoiled brat. I sort of am, but I’ve been insisting this entire time that the fleece sheets they got for me were more than enough. We got my mom a Kindle for Mother’s Day back in May and she absolutely loves it.  She and I...

Moving!
So, I’m moving across the city from Santa Monica to Silverlake.  I’m excited for the new neighborhood and new roommates, but will definitely miss my current roommate and Santa Monica.  Regardless, I’m pretty overwhelmed with all things moving, but will try to blog more regularly.  I know, I know.  I don’t trust me, either.

Very late commentary on Adam Lambert
So I had a day off today and got to sit in front of the TV for a couple hours and finally catch up on some shows including fast-forwarding through the controversial AMAs from over a week ago.  There’s been a ton of controversy over Adam Lambert’s performance because he was very sexual and mostly because he kissed a man.  (It was totally okay when two known straight women —...

New Moon, Same Old Crap
I admit that sometimes I can be a pop culture snob.  For me, really popular books, tv shows, and movies often = artistic crap. I was kind of obnoxious about it in college, but then I grew up and realized that people are entitled to their own opinions — particularly about something as subjective as the arts — and being elitist does not mean I have good taste.  Also, I absolutely LOVE...

I don’t even know why I’m posting this. It’s not funny or even amusing. I just think Jon Gosselin has become the most disgusting human being on earth and this makes it even worse.  In other, happier, news, I love Jane Lynch (her new commercial came on while I was writing this.)

George Carlin
Last night, my friend Andy invited me to go see a George Carlin concert movie at The Actor’s Gang in Culver City. As part of the WTF Festival (whatever that is) they showed Carlin’s 1992 HBO special followed by a reading from his book, “Last Words” by his daughter, Kelly. The special was incredible.  It’s really amazing — and scary — how his comedy from...

So Funny...Not!
I’m currently sitting at my favorite cafe for writing. I had to share a table with some older gentleman because seating was limited when I got here.  One of the guys thinks he is hilarious and keeps asking me how my “Goat Sandwich” is.  I got an eggplant and goat cheese sandwich.  The waitress just told me next time I could order half a sandwich and he said, “You can order...

Ugh. →
I’m so sick of the Gosselins and everyone who has ever spoken to them selling their stories to the highest bidder.  But what really irks me about this article is the term “mantrums.”  Does that imply that tantrums are only a female phenomenom?  Am I being ridiculous by looking for any kind of feminism to come from a woman who is dating an immature asswipe like Jon Gosselin?  Yes.

Busy couple of weeks
Here’s what’s happened: I crashed my car in an accident on the only rainy night I’ve experienced in L.A.  My car is going to take over a month to fix. I celebrated my twenty-mvnblj birthday.  That is not a typo. I auditioned for a pilot. I auditioned for a commercial. I auditioned for a voiceover. I recorded a voiceover for a commercial for a sexual lubricant alongside my...

My least favorite things about living in L.A.
1. It’s way too far from my family. Chicago was a quick 45 minute plane ride. 2. The traffic.  Really, these drivers are the worst ever. 3. It’s so spread out.  The reason the traffic is so bad is because you can’t get anywhere by walking.  I spend so much damn time in the car. 4.  Hollywood can be a real bitch.  This is a very tough business and it’s especially hard for...

6 Months in L.A.
As you can see from the title, it has been six months since I made the move to L.A.  I cannot believe how fast the time has passed.  Here are some of my favorite things about L.A. 1. The weather: Duh. 2. The scenery:  Ocean and mountains are everywhere.  As much as I used to love biking along Lake Michigan, it’s so much more impressive to bike along the Pacific Ocean. 3. Writing and...
