Going to the dark side
I have finally relented and told my father he can get me a Kindle for Hanukkah. Yes, Chanuka was almost three months ago. Yes, that sentence makes me sound like a spoiled brat. I sort of am, but I’ve been insisting this entire time that the fleece sheets they got for me were more than enough.
We got my mom a Kindle for Mother’s Day back in May and she absolutely loves it. She and I are both voracious readers. Since moving to L.A., I’ve been reading more than ever. Erratic traffic patterns make it impossible to predict how long it will take you to get anywhere, so I often find myself in a coffee shop with a book an hour early for whatever appointment I may have. Also, I babysit and will read while the kids are either asleep or in whatever various sports practices I take them to.
Monday is a big reading day for me. I eat lunch alone in between class and work and then I have an hour of reading time while one of my charges goes to running clinic. I left the house with 75 pages to go in my book and had finished them all before my lunch was done. Tragedy! Seriously, I was so distraught and I thought — if only I had a Kindle I could download a new book right now.
Then, this afternoon, I went to Borders to redeem a gift certificate someone had given me. I have a list of, like, 8 books I want to read. At Borders, half of them were hardcover (and can be gotten much cheaper on Amazon) and half weren’t available in the store. So I ended up picking up three books I’m not entirely sure I even want to read and a new Moleskin.
So long story, less long — I’m getting my Kindle when my sister arrives to visit next week and I can’t wait!
Yes, I think this might be the most boring post I’ve ever written, but there’s just not much going on right now.
